2. What this policy covers
This policy explains how I handle any personal data collected through my website CategoryClarity.com and through the basic services Hostinger provides to run the site.
I do not use this website to collect information directly from you via forms, and I do not operate an email newsletter list.
3. What data is collected when you use this site
When you visit this site, some limited information may be collected automatically, mainly through Hostinger and your browser:
Technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type and approximate location.
Information about how you use the site, such as which pages you visit and how long you spend on them.
Cookie information – small text files stored on your device which can help the site work properly and (if enabled) provide simple analytics.
I do not attempt to identify you personally from this information, and I do not combine it with other data to build a profile of you.
4. Cookies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies:
“Essential” cookies that are needed for the site to function correctly.
Optional cookies, which may be used for basic, anonymised analytics to understand website usage.
When you first visit the site, you will see a cookie banner that lets you enable or disable non‑essential cookies. Essential cookies will still be used if you disable all optional cookies, as the site will not work properly without them.
You can change your cookie choices at any time using your browser settings, which usually allow you to block or delete cookies.
5. Why this data is collected and legal basis
I (and Hostinger, as my website provider) use the limited data described above for:
Running and securing the website (for example, protecting against abuse and technical problems).
Understanding, at an aggregate level, how people find and use the site, so I can improve content and layout.
The legal bases under UK data protection law are:
“Legitimate interests” – to operate, protect and improve my website and services in a proportionate way.
“Compliance with legal obligations” – for example, keeping certain records if required by law.
6. Who has access to your data
Your data may be processed by:
Hostinger, which hosts this website and provides the technical platform.
Other technical suppliers that Hostinger relies on to deliver its services (for example, security and infrastructure providers).
I do not sell your personal data and I do not share it with third parties for their own direct marketing.
7. How long data is kept
Technical and usage data collected through the website is kept only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, for example to monitor performance, troubleshoot issues and keep appropriate security and legal records.
The exact retention period may depend on how Hostinger configures its logs and analytics, but it is not kept longer than needed.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, ask for it to be deleted or restricted, and to object to certain uses of it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (www.ico.org.uk) if you are unhappy with how your data is handled.
9. Changes to this policy
I may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example if my services or legal obligations change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will show when it was last revised.
If the changes are significant, I will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention, for example by highlighting them on the website.
